ReadMachine is a local-first app. Your documents and reading data stay on your Mac.

Overview
This policy explains what ReadMachine does with your files and your data.
It describes the app as it behaves today. If that changes, this page changes first.
ReadMachine is developed by Ivan Tokar, publishing as TOKR Laboratory. Questions about privacy and your personal data go to privacy@tokrl.com; help with using the app goes to the support address below.
Your files
ReadMachine reads the PDFs in the library folder you choose. It never alters, renames or deletes them. If you resolve a duplicate, the copy you discard is moved to a Trash folder inside your library, not deleted.
Its index, cover thumbnails, bookmarks, highlights, notes and reading progress are stored in that same library folder, not inside your PDFs.
Passwords of protected PDFs are never stored.
Data collection
ReadMachine does not require an account, and it does not collect or upload your documents, your reading activity or your library data.
Analytics
ReadMachine does not use analytics, advertising or telemetry.
Network access
ReadMachine does not upload your documents and does not need an internet connection to read your library.
The version downloaded from tokrl.com uses Sparkle to check tokrl.com for updates. These requests include the ReadMachine version and the standard network information any web request carries, such as your IP address. Sparkle’s optional system profiling is not enabled. No documents, library details or reading activity are sent.
The Mac App Store version makes no network connections of its own; the App Store delivers its updates.
Keeping and deleting your data
Your documents and reading data stay in your library folder until you remove them. Deleting that folder removes everything ReadMachine stored there: the index, covers, bookmarks, highlights, notes, reading progress and the safety copy made before database upgrades.
Uninstalling ReadMachine does not delete your library. The few settings the app keeps for itself, such as which folder you chose, are removed with the app’s data.
tokrl.com does not enable access logging for the update feed or the downloads. Emails you send to support are kept only as long as needed to answer you.
Local storage on your Mac
The app remembers which library folder you chose, and your update preference, in its own settings on your Mac.
It runs in the macOS App Sandbox and can only open folders you explicitly select.
Third-party services
ReadMachine does not send your library contents to anyone. The files and update feed on tokrl.com are hosted on Amazon Web Services, which handles the technical data of each download or update request, and support email is handled by Zoho Mail. ReadMachine bundles open-source libraries that run entirely on your Mac; their licenses are listed in Settings under About.
Your privacy rights
The personal data we actually hold is limited to what you send us, such as a support email. You can ask what we hold about you, or ask us to correct or delete it, by writing to privacy@tokrl.com.
